Why Euro Slab

Why Modern Palm Beach Buyers Pick Euro Slab

Slab is the second-most-installed style in our 2026 Palm Beach County kitchens, especially in new-construction condos on the Intracoastal and modern beach houses in Manalapan and Highland Beach.

Cleanest visual read

One flat plane per door. No frame, no panel, no shadow line. The cabinet becomes background — the stone slab and the lighting become the foreground.

Built-in look with no hardware

Push-to-open or integrated channel pulls remove hardware entirely. The whole wall reads as one millwork plane.

More interior storage

Frameless construction (no face frame) gives you 8-12% more usable interior space per cabinet.

Best for modern stone slabs

Calacatta Viola, Brazilian quartzite, large-format porcelain — the dramatic slabs need a quiet door to land properly.

Pairs with hidden appliances

Panel-ready Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Miele appliances fit visually into slab cabinetry better than any other style.

Reads expensive at every price point

Even a mid-tier euro slab kitchen reads high-end. The minimal style does the visual work that ornamentation does on traditional cabinetry.

Style guide

What "Euro Slab" Actually Means

Euro slab is two construction decisions stacked together: a frameless cabinet box (no face frame on the front of the cabinet) plus a flat-slab door (no rails, no stiles, no panel). The combination is what makes the kitchen read modern.

Frameless construction comes from European cabinetry, where 16mm or 19mm panel boxes have been the standard since the 1960s. The box is held together by dowels, cams, and dado joints rather than a face frame. The door covers the entire cabinet opening, so the gap between two adjacent doors is just 2-3 millimeters.

Slab doors can be built in several core constructions: MDF core (most affordable, best for thermofoil or laminate wrap), plywood core (solid, holds an edge-band well), or solid wood (most expensive, requires careful humidity control). The finish layer can be thermofoil, high-pressure laminate, acrylic, lacquer, real wood veneer, or — at the top end — a back-painted glass.

Hardware decisions matter more here than on other styles. With no door details to soften it, the choice between an exposed bar pull, an integrated channel pull, or a push-to-open mechanism becomes the kitchen's signature design move.

Questions

Euro Slab Cabinet FAQs

Are euro slab cabinets a fad? +

Not in this market. Slab cabinets have been the dominant European cabinetry style since the 1960s and have been growing in U.S. kitchens since 2018. In 2026 they're the second-most-installed style we do.

Do euro slab cabinets show fingerprints? +

Glossy and high-gloss slab cabinets do. Matte and supermatte finishes are now engineered with anti-fingerprint coatings that completely solve this — modern matte slab cabinets are what most clients want in 2026.

Will euro slab cabinets look dated in 10 years? +

European designers have used slab cabinets for 60+ years. The risk isn't that slab dates — it's that a specific finish dates (e.g., glossy white from 2010). Choosing a finish with timeless reading — matte off-white, soft wood veneer, deep matte black — minimizes that risk.

Can I get a panel-ready refrigerator with euro slab cabinets? +

Yes — slab cabinets are the best style for panel-ready appliances. The door wraps the appliance face seamlessly. Sub-Zero, Miele, and Liebherr all sell panel-ready models that we install with slab cabinetry routinely.

Push-to-open or pulls on euro slab cabinets — which is better? +

Push-to-open looks cleanest. Pulls are more forgiving with wet hands in a busy kitchen. Most clients pick channel-integrated edge pulls — the compromise: no protruding hardware, but a clear grip surface.

Do euro slab cabinets hurt resale? +

In a contemporary, modern, or new-construction home — no, they help. In a traditional or Mediterranean home — yes, they can confuse the buyer. Match the door style to the architecture.
